What's New for the 2017 Honda Accord?

With more features and a new Special Edition, the 2017 Honda Accord represents a new wave in sedan ownership.

The new build adds light, wide-open doors. In the backseat, passengers will find comfort in higher-backed, reclining seats. There’s also more legroom. Sound insulation and noise-reduction engineering techniques make the ride quieter. Smartphone integration has been enhanced by the addition of Apple CarPlay for iPhone users. Android phone owners can utilize Android Auto. Either way, they can access many more apps. Using navigation apps, Accord owners can stream maps and directions to their touchscreen. The Sport Special Edition has front power seats, two rows of leather upholstery, and a racy-red stitch for a sporty accent. It uses a sport-tuned suspension for taut handling.

The Accord uses a 185-horsepower engine to run circles around the competition. The 2017 Toyota Camry produces only 178 horsepower, and the 2017 Chevy Malibu is rated for only 160 horsepower. Accords also provide the kick of 171 lb.-ft. of torque. A continuously variable transmission helps the Honda earn 27 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. Driving enthusiasts may step up to the V6 and command 278 horsepower. Car and Driver has once again named the 2017 Accord one of its 10Best.3

Just as Honda led the way in affordable dash technologies, the automaker also leads the way in safety and crash avoidance. Accords earned five-star federal crash ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Admnistration)4 and the Top Safety Pick Plus award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety5. Drivers will appreciate that this car received the top scores for crash results, the LATCH attachments, and the available crash avoidance systems. Only the Accord offers LaneWatch. Positioned on the passenger side mirror, a camera is ready to inform the driver about side traffic. A lane change assist measures the distance between oncoming side traffic and the car, and it is able to warn the driver if it is unsafe to change lanes. A forward collision warning is tied to a brake mitigation system, offering extra help with fast stops.
